The 10th National eLearning Conference of the Philippine eLearning Society (PeLS) is a premier academic forum which aims to gather eLearning practitioners, educators, trainors, researchers, media specialists, instructional designers, university school administrators, policy makers, industry partners and students across the country to present and exchange new advances and research results in various aspects of eLearning as well as discuss the encountered challenges and practical adopted solutions for a successful eLearning program implementation.

I. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

This year’s theme:

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES:
The A B C D of eLearning
(Access, Build, Connect, Deliver)

will underscore the vast scope and applications of the innovative use of educational technologies in eLearning practice while assuring excellence in delivery and enhancing student online learning experiences.

The conference aims to:

  • strengthen the convergence of technology and learning theories to form meaningful settings for learners with different academic, industry and support needs;
  • reinforce the technical, pedagogical, management and social dimensions associated with eLearning implementation to ensure quality in eLearning practice and delivery;
  • organize educators, researchers, educational technologists, instructional designers and students in discussing the issues related to the development of quality online education and the challenges of ensuring pedagogically sound eLearning practices; and
  • establish linkages and strengthen solidarity among eLearning practitioners, industry partners and institutions.

II.   CONFERENCE STRUCTURE

The conference will feature various types of sessions in order to create a comprehensive program. The program is divided into:

PLENARY SESSIONS

These sessions feature key eLearning experts, practitioners and innovative decision makers from education, business, and government sectors showcasing their eLearning initiatives in a national scope.

CONCURRENT / PARALLEL SESSIONS

These sessions focus on the theme of the conference where leading practitioners present best practices, experiences and findings. Some of these sessions feature case studies and researches from their institutions, organizations and corporations. Some sessions may take the form of demonstrations of innovative services and products, best practice showcases, vendor presentation and additional networking events created for interaction of elearning practitioners with common interest.

WORKSHOPS / SHORT TRAINING PROGRAMS

A series of short-term workshops designed to enable participants to further improve their eLearning technology practice. These skill-based workshops in variety of topics allow participants to readily apply gained skills back to their workplace.

III.  CALL FOR TRADE EXHIBITS

The convention is an excellent opportunity for commercial organizations to exhibit their products and or showcase their services. PELS invites computer suppliers, distributors, service providers for both academe and industry to exhibit their products, learning materials, or provide product demonstration. A specified exhibit area will be provided for the exhibitors and sponsors of the conference.

IV.  CALL FOR PAPERS

eLearning practitioners from basic to higher education, non-formal training, and industry are invited to submit abstracts for the parallel session. These papers may be in the form of empirical research, case studies, or frameworks for decision-making regarding the application of information and communication technologies for education and training. eLearning enthusiasts are welcome to submit proposals for presentation on the following topics:

  • Course Development
  • Assessment and Evaluation
  • eLearning or web-based teaching strategies
  • eLearning Implementation
  • eLearning Management
  • eLearning Innovations and Technology
  • Instructional Design
  • Interactivity
  • Training and Development
  • Online Tutoring and Support
  • Local & International Linkages for eLearning

 

In accordance with the theme, the paper for your presentation may be developed along any of the following themes:

1.    Organizational Strategy and Management  (ex. Cost-effectiveness of quality initiatives)

2.    Technology (ex. Choice of Learning Management Systems

3.    eLearning Effectiveness (ex. Best practices and innovative eLearning)

4.    eLearning  efficiency (ex. Integrating Multi-media for effective learning)

5.    Equity in the eLearning Environment (ex. Accessibility and socio economic issues)

6.    eLearning Research  (ex.Comparative quality implementation issues)

7.    E-Skills and Information Literacy for Learning (ex. ICT Skills education)

 The abstract should be formatted according to the following guidelines:

·         maximum of 300 to 400 words excluding the title and name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s)

·         MS Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) written in letter-sized template with 1” margin on all sides.

·         text in 11-point Arial, single-spaced, justified paragraph

·         title of the paper in boldfaced capital letters and centered alignment

·        name(s) of the author(s) centered with two-line space from the title, presenter’s name should be underlined

·         author(s)’ affiliation centered and one-line space from the name(s), if more than one author, use superscript to indicate affiliation

Email abstracts not later than 15 October 2011 at pels_secretariat@yahoo.com.ph or to Dr. Maria Ana Quimbo (Chair, Paper Evaluation ), anaquimbo@yahoo.comAuthors of accepted papers will be notified not later than 30 October 2011.  Only papers of authors who register by 30 October 2011 will be included in the program and proceedings. 

Final Paper/Presentation Materials 

1.    Final paper for accepted abstracts should be in by 15 November 2011.

2.    The final paper should be at most 10 pages.  The format is left to the discretion of the presenter.  Font size should be 12, Times New Roman.

3.    The electronic presentation slides should be in by 30 November 2011  for inclusion in the conference proceedings.  There should be at most 20 slides for the 20 minute presentation.

4.    The Conference Paper Review Committee will award special prizes to the top 5 conference papers.  The Committee will evaluate submitted papers using the following criteria:  organization, content, originality and contribution to eLearning practice.

5.    We will also award Early Bird Prizes to the first 5 papers submitted provided they are accepted for presentation. 

 

V.   CALL FOR MEMBERSHIP

Membership to PELS is open to professionals who share a common interest in the design, development, delivery and management of eLearning and practice these skills for the improvement of academic, corporate or government institutions.
